March - April: Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

Location: 33814 S Meridian Rd, Woodburn, OR 97071

Fee: [must buy online] day fee from $10-25, depending on age and date of entrance!

Features: This tulip farm features full festival vibes, from dancing to music to food to carnival rides. My favorite feature about this farm is that it flies HOT AIR BALLOONS just about every week! You can see Mt. Hood in the distance, and they also have a small windmill and several tractors, which are perfect for some creative photos. I love visiting this location in mid- to late-April, as that is when most of the tulips are in bloom. You can support this festival by also buying cut or growing tulips!

May - June: Adelman Peony Gardens

Adelman Peony Gardens

Location: 5690 Brooklake Rd NE, Salem, OR 97305

Fee: no fees

Features: These gardens host 25 acres of peonies, and is generally open from 9-6pm every day starting May first! This is a wonderful spot for photos because of how spread out it is, and the peonies are beautiful. Remember to be respectful of the working hands, and because there is no fee, choose to support them by buying a few buds that will bloom in your home! While there are no amenities other than a bathroom, the hosts offer the opportunity to bring a picnic and eat among the flowers. Talk about a wonderful photoshoot opportunity!

Brooks Garden Peonies is another garden that I want to visit soon!

May - September: International Rose Test Garden

International Rose Test Garden

Location: 400 SW Kingston Ave, Portland, OR 97205

Fee: none for the park, but $1-5 in parking fees

Features: This garden is very popular among travelers and tourists for its beautiful roses, and I totally see why! There are almost 5 acres of roses of all sizes, shapes, and colors. It features more than 10,000 roses. This location also has a beautiful Japanese garden. On-site amenities include bathrooms, and sometimes food vendors.

July: Lavender Farms

Mountainside Lavender Farm

Location: 17805 SW Hillsboro Hwy, Hillsboro, OR 97123

Fee: no fees

Features: This lavender farm (see pictured) boasts two large fields with a variety of lavender types. While they don't have an entrance fee, I absolutely recommend you take the time to pick a bunch for yourself. When I visited in 2021, the farm charged $5 per amount of lavender that could be held in a closed hand. My friend Zuri and I loved walking around, seeing the bees, and picking a variety of powerfully-smelling lavender.

Note: There are SO MANY lavender fields in Oregon! Here are some others I want to visit:

-Lavender Valley in Hood River, OR

-Wayward Winds Lavender Farm

-Eagle Creek Lavender Farm

August - September: Sunflowers and Zinnias

Lee Farms

Location: 21975 SW 65th Ave, Tualatin, OR 97062

Fee: $10 per person

Features: This farm has a very wide variety of sunflowers that are all labeled throughout their space. This is another festival-like farm, because it often has live music and food vendors. Lee Farms is also connected to a small-business and sustainability market, which you can shop at when you need to step out of the heat!

West Union Gardens

Location: 7775 NW Cornelius Pass Rd, Hillsboro, OR 97124

Fee: $5 per person

Features: While this does not have as many features as Lee Farms, it has a large field of sunflowers that are perfect for photos. Alongside this, they often have a few rows of zinnias that are gorgeous at golden hour. If you are looking for a quieter space where the priority is photos, this is the location for you! West Union Gardens also has pumpkins in September.

Have you fallen in love with the idea of a photoshoot, surrounded by your favorite flowers? Let me see if I can guess what you'd enjoy:

-A flowy dress, running down the rows of tulips
