What does Galentine's stand for??

Galentine's Day is a day to women to celebrate friendships with their gals, hence galentines. It can be used alongside (or replace entirely) Valentine's Day, but for me personally, I love having both days! There are so many things that you can do if you decide to host a Galentine's with your besties, and I will list some of my favorite ideas below. And if you have any further questions or need some extra assistance to make the best party ever, send me a message at the bottom of this blog post!

Hi, my name is Emma, and I am a photographer based in the Pacific Northwest. I LOVE capturing your story!!! While I love photographing my seniors, couples, weddings and families, there is something so special about photographing friendships. Best friends are probably the least-photographed groups in the photography industry, which makes me so sad. Even though I sometimes fall away from old friends or make new friends, I wish I had photos with each of mine. I want to grow old with my besties and be able to see how we grew and transformed throughout our lives.

So, while yes, I am talking specifically about Galentine's, I'm also telling you that this is your sign to just book a photoshoot with your besties!!!

What do girls do on Galentine's Day?

Galentine's Day is a day to celebrate life with your girls. You can do anything! However, don't forget to first plan some time together where you can hang out and have fun. I know for me with my girls, we are super busy and often need to remember to schedule a specific time together!

Once you've done that, decide whether you are going to spend a day together, a brunch or dinner, or even just a few hours! Will you be planning the entire day, or are you going to delegate certain to-do activities to the gals?

Make sure to be aware of local weather and locations! If you plan on doing a February Galentine's Day and you don't live on the south or near warmth, it will probably be cold outside and likely to rain. BUT this is your permission to plan a girls' day using these tips at any time in the year!

Lastly, I am a photographer, and I will ALWAYS advocate for you to bring a photographer along to capture the laughs, the hard work of planning the day, and the friendships between you and your girls. If you live somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, contact me below!

What are some fun ideas?

Need inspiration?? Here are some ideas that I've seen or done that sounds fun! Don't forget to pick an idea that represents you and your girls.

  • Grab some of your favorite snacks (or make a charcuterie board), and have a picnic! Bonus points if you dress up cute!
  • Create cocktails or mocktails based on color, your job, or something else! This works great if you have each person make a mocktail style for the group.
  • Go thrift shopping or dig through your closet to find old prom dresses, and go on a fancy date to the closest downtown city area near you! (My favorite is when you also get some cute cheap pink or red sunglasses to fit the theme)
  • Grab your gals and take a cooking class!
  • Find a local art or creative studio and paint, make jewelry, or play with pottery.
  • Get fancy with a brunch or afternoon tea... inspired by Bridgerton or your favorite period drama.
  • Go to a bookstore or library and read your best friends' book recommendations!
  • Go flower shopping at a farmer's market, local supermarket, or flower shop!
  • Have a Karaoke night with the best love songs (or breakup songs?)
  • Take a road trip to some of the most beautiful locations in your area.
  • Grab some Valentine's Day sweets and decorations from a dollar store to feature in your party!

Don't forget to "ask them"! Make it as simple or elaborate as you want.
